History

Harkness Henry has a proud history of providing high quality legal advice since 1875.

The firm’s current name resulted when the practices of the late Phillip Harkness and Clive Henry merged in 1945.  With its primary offices in Hamilton, the firm has also had a branch office in Paeroa since 1978.

Today, Harkness Henry has become one of New Zealand’s best known mid-sized law firms.  Former Governor General, Justice Dame Silvia Cartwright, was a partner prior to her appointment to the bench.  Dame Silvia’s successor in the firm, Christine Grice, is a past president of the New Zealand Law Society and currently a judge of the High Court and Court of Appeal of the Cook Islands.  Members of the firm have consistently been elected to Waikato/Bay of Plenty and New Zealand Law Society committees.

Harkness Henry Lawyers have over 100 years of excellence in the law behind us.  We enjoy an exceptional reputation throughout New Zealand due to the firm’s ability to meet our clients’ legal needs with prompt, pragmatic and specialist advice.
