Litigation

As leader of the Harkness Henry litigation team, Sarah is an experienced commercial litigator, advising clients on a broad range of commercial disputes.

She frequently advises insolvency practitioners and creditors regarding liquidations, receiverships and compromises, dealing with issues relating to securities, insolvent transactions, director breaches and recoveries.

Sarah has particular experience in assisting clients regarding prosecutions by Worksafe and the Ministry of Primary Industries. This involves advising clients during the investigation phase, negotiations with prosecutors, dealing with insurers and appearing in court to defend charges or for sentencing.

She also practices in the area of alcohol licensing and steps in to advise our large base of hospitality and alcohol industry clients when licence applications are opposed.  With her extensive litigation experience she has the skills to represent clients at DLC, ARLA and High Court hearings in this specialist area.

Sarah is regularly appointed as a legal advisor to Professional Conduct Committees who are conducting investigations against health practitioners under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.

She has a broad range of experience, developed during her previous work at Phillips Fox, as a senior solicitor for Islington Borough Council in London, and as in-house legal counsel for one of the United Kingdom’s largest housing developers.

Holding honours degrees in both law and management, Sarah is on the Board of Trustees for True Colours Charitable Trust and annually organises the Trust’s major fundraising event on Melbourne Cup Day.
